Inexpensive fast fun, this 1968 Camaro rocks a big block V8, a built automatic, and a great-looking white-on-black paint job that will never go out of fashion. Cars like these fill the Friday night cruise night parking logs and dominate the drag strips on Sunday afternoons—isn’t it time you got in on the fun?
You can’t argue with this Camaro’s stance, or the brutally effective black and white finish that is the perfect antidote to all the Hugger Orange Camaros running around. Panel gaps are decent and the paint is glossy, so you’ll be proud to show it, and the clean look of the early Camaros is popular for a very good reason: it simply looks awesome. A cowl induction hood was installed before the respray, so the stripes could be painted to match, and out back a factory-style ducktail spoiler gives it a proper high-performance look. The chrome is decent, but not so nice you’ll be afraid to park it, and all the stainless appears to be original, as does the glass.
The black interior has been restored using correct components, from the reproduction Strato Bucket seat covers to the authentic-looking carpet set on the floor. It shows some use, but overall it remains in very good shape with no splits or wear on the seat covers themselves. The original gauges remain in the dash, but for keeping an eye on the big block under the hood, there’s a set of auxiliary gauges mounted down low, just ahead of the trick B&M shifter for the TH400 underneath. It’s possible that the door panels are original, and if that’s the case, it’s a sign of how well-maintained the car has been throughout its life, especially now that it’s approaching 45 years old! You’ll also be pleased to see that the trunk is entirely rust-free and completely solid, so no worries about this ever being a rusty car.
For all-out performance, it’s hard to beat a big block in a lightweight F-body. The strong-running 396 under the hood was built for speed, and like the rest of the car, takes no prisoners. There’s a big 4-barrel carburetor atop an Edelbrock intake and a set of Erson roller rockers under those chrome valve covers, all helping to make this car a legitimate threat at the stop light grand prix. You’ll appreciate the power steering upgrade with that chunk of cast iron over the front wheels, and an upgraded fan keeps it cool under the most demanding conditions. The chassis is fortified with subframe connectors and a driveshaft loop for safety, and a 10-bolt out back delivers the torque. Long-tube headers dump into a custom exhaust system with Flowmasters and turndowns just ahead of the rear axle, a weight-saving tip that also happens to sound amazing. Wheels are classic Centerlines wearing staggered 185-80-15 front and 275-60-15 rear tires for a perfect drag racing stance.
